Chess is a game that once you learn how to play, you will enjoy forever. While learning the game, students develop skills in critical thinking, focus, sportsmanship, and self-esteem.
Course offerings include Beginner 1A and Beginner 1B sections for students to progress in their understanding of the game with like-skilled peers.

Beginner 1A
In this six-week class, students new to chess will learn basic rules and piece movements, learn basic opening principals and strategies, solve simple tactical problems, and play multiple mini games aimed at improving visualization, and most importantly have fun! A chess workbook will be included in the class fee.

Beginner 1B
In this continuation of the step one beginner course, we will continue learning topics introduced in the first half of the book. Things like hanging pieces, counting material, profitable exchanges, basic tactics like pins, skewers, deflection, and removal of the guard. Opening principals and basic endgames may also be covered.
