Annual Holiday Program

Toy Collection

From now until December 20th, DSS will be accepting new, unwrapped toys to benefit children receiving agency services. 

  • If a business would like to act as a toy collection site and receive a collection box, please complete the inquiry form and select Become a Toy Drop Site or contact Rajkumari Sukhnandan at (919) 245-2082
  • An individual or business can also submit a one-time or reoccurring donation. All donations cash, check, or debit/credit card donations will be spent purchasing toys.

Volunteer

Volunteers are needed to serve as escorts to assist families select gifts as well as sort and re-stock toys. If you also have a family-friendly, holiday- themed talent that you could share with a crowd for 15-30 minutes, we’d love to hear from you! 

  • If you would like to volunteer for the actual holiday event on December 21st or 22nd, please contact Veronica Burnette at (919) 245-2858, vburnette@orangecountync.gov or complete the volunteer form.
  • Please send an email to lamiller@orangecountync.gov if you would like to share your talent with us for Christmas!

The Orange County Department of Social Services exists to provide protection to vulnerable children and adults, economic support to low-income individuals and families in crisis, and intervention services to at-risk persons residing in Orange County. The agency is the access point for most state and federal human services programs.

Applications and additional information about all programs are available at both Orange County office locations.

Am I Eligible?

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services uses an online benefit estimator tool that can help determine whether you might be eligible for benefits.  Actual eligibility determination must be done at the Department of Social Services.

Applications Available for Download

Medicaid applications can be downloaded here.  Applications for the Food and Nutrition Services Program can be download in an English Version (PDF) or a Spanish Version.  Applications should be mailed to the agency to be processed.
