Family & Children's Medicaid

Overview

Family and Children's Medicaid assist vulnerable individuals, children, and parents with medical costs such as doctor fees, prescription drugs, and hospital charges. Individuals may be eligible is they meet one of the following criteria: 

  • Children through age 20 who live alone, with one or both parents, or with other adults
  • Parents caring for children under age 19
  • Pregnant women, with or without other children  

Medicaid Transportation

Medicaid Transportation services are available for some Medicaid beneficiaries that have been assessed and found in need of transportation for doctor appointments and other medically-related needs. Transportation services will operate on a limited basis to Carolina Dialysis ONLY from November 23-24. 

Full services will resume on Monday, November 26, 2018. Trip Requests for Monday, November 26, must be received by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, November 20. Requests for Tuesday, November 27, must be received by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, November 21.

Notice

Hawkins v. Cohen (5:17-CV-581 E.D.N.C.) is a federal lawsuit filed in 2017 on behalf of Medicaid beneficiaries in North Carolina. The Court has ordered N.C. DHHS and all 100 counties to stop terminations or reductions of Medicaid benefits until eligibility under all Medicaid categories has been considered and proper notice of the termination has been sent.
