Medicare Assistance at Orange County Senior Centers SUSPENDED
As of Friday March 13, the Orange County Senior Centers have suspended all group and volunteer activities due to the Coronavirus outbreak. This includes our Medicare and ACA/Obamacare Counseling services. At this time, we do not have an estimated date when we may be able to reopen.
The North Carolina Department of Insurance operates a call center to assist those with Medicare questions and concerns over the telephone. You can reach them 8am-5pm Monday through Friday at 1-855-408-1212.
For assistance with ACA/Obamacare issues, we suggest you contact the Piedmont Community Health Center at 919-724-5227. You may also contact Jeanne Chamberlin, the SHIIP Program Coordinator for Orange County at 919-245-4240.
Welcome to Medicare Classes
Classes are cancelled but people can download Welcome to Medicare 2020 Presentation with notes for a comprehensive, easy to understand introduction to Medicare. You may also download a copy of the Medicare Basics by the NC Department of Insurance.
The Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) provides free, unbiased education and assistance with Medicare. We can help you understand when and how to enroll, how to choose between the different Medicare options, and how to read your Medicare statements. We offer regular classes at both Senior Centers and the public libraries in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough. Or, you may choose to meet one-on-one with a Certified SHIIP Counselor to discuss your specific needs.
Appointments with Certified Counselors are available at the Passmore Center and the Seymour Center. You can schedule your appointment online now, or call us at 919-245-4274.
We also offer a limited number of Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare) counseling appointments for adults age 55 to 64. To Schedule an appointment for ACA/Obamacare assistance, please call us at 919-245-4240.
