The Transportation Specialist is responsible for building awareness of current transportation services and helping to improve these services for the older adult population.
Although the Transportation Specialist does not provide direct transportation, she is available to help identify transportation options for non-drivers and help with accessing services. The Transportation Specialist advocates for, and works to support, the transportation needs of the older adult community in Orange County.
Public
Public Transit
- Chapel Hill Transit (CHT) - Buses serving the towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro and a route between Hillsborough and Chapel Hill (Route 420).
- EZRider - Provides a paratransit (door to door) service for eligible riders who have physical or mental impairments. Riders must live within the Chapel Hill / Carrboro city limits.
- The Senior Shuttle is available to all senior citizens with stops at senior housing, shopping areas, the library, and the Seymour Center.
- Orange County Public Transportation (OCPT) - Buses serve the Hillsborough area.
- GoTriangle - Regional bus and GoTriangle ACCESS, paratransit (door to door) service. Call the GoTriangle Regional Transit Information Center to easily plan your bus trip using information from all transportation agencies: 919-485-RIDE (7433).
- The Volunteer Driver Program helps connect older adults to beneficial services and organizations. Become a volunteer driver or register for a ride.

Orange County - Department on Aging is seeking dedicated volunteer drivers for the Volunteer Driver Program (VDP).
Volunteer Drivers Needed
- Do you have a desire to help older adults?
- Have your own transportation?
- 2 to 3 hours a week to spare?
- Program resource materials
- Program training and support
