Investigation

The Orange County Fire & Life Safety Division, working in cooperation with the proper local, state and federal agencies, conducts investigations into the origin and cause of fires within the unincorporated areas of Orange County. Many times, these fires result in injury, death and property loss.

Given the intense nature of their work, the Orange County Fire & Life Safety Division hold certifications in firefighting and fire/arson investigation from the State of North Carolina and are skilled at reconstructing fire scenes to understand the sequence of events that unfold in a fire. Each member of the team has received extensive training in origin and cause determination, fire scene photography, courtroom testimony, evidence collection, and many other relevant subjects.

When deemed necessary, an accelerant detection canine is used in cooperation with the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation. (external link)
