Winter Storm Diego dumped almost a foot of snow in areas of Orange County. Travel conditions throughout the county are treacherous, but DOT and town crews have made progress in the towns and on the highways. Orange County public safety officials continue to advise residents to stay off the roads to allow crews to clear the roads and to allow emergency vehicles to be able to respond to requests for service.

County Closings

Orange County Administrative offices will be closed Monday. The Orange County Sportsplex will open at noon, Orange County Animal Services will monitor the drop off. Orange County Solid Waste will make up for Monday's missed recycling collections on Saturday.

Both public school systems and the Orange County Courts are also closed.

Power Outages

Power company officials are expecting significant power outages across North Carolina throughout the impact area. Below is the contact information to report power outages.

  • Duke Power - 800-769-3766 (Duke Power outage maps). Duke customers may also receive text notifications for power outages in their area. Text REG to 57801 for text alerts. With outage alerts, we'll notify you by text, voice message or email when you have an outage. We'll also send status updates and estimated restoration times.
  • Piedmont Electric - Main Office 800-449-2667 or Report Outage 800-222-3107 (PEMC outage map)
  • PSNC - 877-776-2427 (Signs of a gas leak)
