Robert Reynolds has been named as Orange County Chief Information Officer, county manager Bonnie Hammersley announced Oct. 11. Reynolds has more than two decades of local government experience in management and information technology.

“Orange County is such a special place and has so much to offer its residents,” Reynolds said. “Having worked for the Town of Chapel Hill for many years, I was excited to accept this position to once again serve the residents of Orange County.”

Reynolds fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Jim Northrup. Reynolds will begin work in Orange County on Oct. 30, 2023.

Reynolds comes to Orange County from the City of Raleigh, where he serves as Chief Information Security Officer. He joined the City of Raleigh in 2022 after working for 18 years with the Town of Chapel Hill, where he began as a Senior Information Technology Analyst in 2004 and served as their Chief Information Security Officer from 2019-2022. He was named Chapel Hill Police Department’s Employee of the Year in 2012.

“As the Chief Information Officer, my priorities will include leveraging technology to drive the strategic goals and objectives of Orange County, foster innovation, and ensuring the secure and efficient operation of technology solutions to serve the residents of Orange County,” he said.

Reynolds is a veteran who was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 2001. He earned a B.S. in Liberal Arts with a concentration in administration and management from Excelsior College in Albany, N.Y. He received a B.S. in Information Systems Management, an M.S. in Cybersecurity and an MBA from the University of Maryland University College.
