[ARCHIVED] Orange County to host a discussion about substance use and aging

Seymour Center

The Orange County Department on Aging and the Project EngAGE Mental Wellness Senior Resource Team invite the public to a Conversation about Substance Use and Aging on Jan. 22.

Our bodies change as we age, and so does the impact certain substances like prescription drugs, medications, alcohol, etc. have on us.

Join us for a discussion about substance use among older adults. What does it mean? How can we recognize a potential problem in ourselves and others? How do we talk about it, and with whom? What treatment options are available?

Experts will discuss these topics and more on Wed., Jan. 22 from 5:30–7 pm at the Seymour Center (2551 Homestead Road in Chapel Hill).

Following the discussion the panel will be available to answer questions. Questions can be asked following the presentation, or submitted in writing.

Guest Speakers

  • Jena Ivey Burkhart, PharmD, BCPS, CPP, from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy
  • Heather Griffin-Dolciney, LCSW, LCAS, CCS, from Freedom House
  • Dr. Sharon Reilly, Medical Director from Piedmont Health SeniorCare PACE
  • Dr. Stuart Downie, MB ChB, Geriatric Psychiatrist from Duke

Participants are asked to register by Friday, Jan. 17.

Fee: FREE
