[ARCHIVED] Orange County Government Announces Closings, Service Alterations for Holiday Week and New Year’s

Orange County Government will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, Dec. 24-26, to observe the winter holidays. Orange County Government will also be closed on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, for the New Year’s holiday.

Please note the following exceptions:

  • Solid Waste: Recycling pick-up will take place as scheduled on Tuesday, Dec. 24. However, pick-up scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 25, will be collected on Thursday, Dec. 26th. For the remainder of the week, recycling collection will be delayed by one day. The Orange County Landfill and Waste & Recycling Centers will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25, reopening on Thursday, Dec. 26. The Administrative Office will be closed from Tuesday, Dec. 24 through Thursday, Dec. 26. On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, Solid Waste Administrative Offices and The Orange County Landfill and Waste & Recycling Centers will be closed and there will be no recycling collection. For the remainder of the week, recycling collection will be delayed by one day.
  • Animal Services: Will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24, through Thursday, Dec. 26. On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, Animal Services will be closed. They ask that, as always, people call 9-1-1 if they have an animal-related emergency when they are closed, such as animal bites to humans or exposure to rabies.
  • Transportation Services: OCPT will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24, Wednesday, Dec. 25, Thursday, Dec. 26, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025. On Friday, Dec 27, CPT will operate limited service to the county dialysis center ONLY (Carolina Dialysis Carrboro).
  • 9-1-1 Services: Will be available. Please only call 9-1-1 to report emergencies.
  • Library: The Orange County Main Library in Hillsborough and the Cybrary in Carrboro will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24, Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Thursday, Dec. 26. Both library branches will resume regular hours on Friday, Dec. 27. The Orange County Main Library in Hillsborough and the Cybrary in Carrboro will close early at 5 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 31 and will be closed on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

The county will resume its regular schedule on Friday, Dec. 27. The week of New Year’s, the county will be open regular hours except Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, on which all county offices will be closed.
