Overview

The Intergovernmental Parks Work Group, or IPWG, was proposed by the Joint Master Recreation and Parks Work Group Report in 1999 and created in 2001. This joint task force is composed of representatives from the towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, and Mebane with the County as the lead entity. The IPWG is responsible for creating and updating an inventory of all recreation and park facilities, public, quasi-public and private, in the County, and exploring collaboration opportunities between the jurisdictions.

The Work Group meets four times per year to review park plans, discuss new opportunities, and address joint park and recreation issues as referred by the elected boards.

Composite Countywide Parks & Trails Map

In 2006, the IPWG created the Composite Countywide Parks and Trails map, as a guide for future parks planning. This map includes existing and proposed facilities in all jurisdictions on one map. Composite Countywide Parks and Trails Map.
