PIT Service Count
Service providers and volunteers continue to survey community members for the following week to determine the total number of people who experienced homelessness on the night of the PIT Count. Here is more information on the service count:
BACKGROUND
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires communities across the United States to conduct a Point-in-Time (PIT) count each year to determine the number of people experiencing homelessness in local communities. The PIT uses survey data collected from individuals and families about their living situation and background, and information from service providers to assemble a complete picture of everyone experiencing homelessness on a particular night, usually the last Wednesday in January.
VOLUNTEER INTEREST
We invite individuals interested in volunteering for the 2026 PIT Unsheltered Count in January 2026 to contact ddecaprio@orangecountync.gov for more information.
This video, produced by the Triangle Community Foundation, documents the PIT volunteer experience.
