OUR MISSION 
Orange County Housing staff work with empathy and a racial equity lens to connect people and partners with housing resources.
 
 FREE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES INCLUDE

  • Information and referral to community resources and affordable housing options
  • Emergency rent and utility assistance
  • Outreach, service connections, and housing solutions for individuals and families experiencing homelessness
  • Legal information and advice about evictions and other housing-related issues
  • Housing Choice Vouchers
  • Home repair and rehabilitation* 
  • Tax assistance for long-term homeowners* 
  • Advising the Board of County Commissioners about affordable housing needs and opportunities

Rental Assistance

Home Repair and Rehabilitation

Our department operates two home repair and rehabilitation program for low-income homeowners. To learn more, visit the Home Repair page.

We are also a member of the Orange County Home Preservation Coalition, a collaborative of organizations that provide home repairs and modifications to Orange County residents and coordinate to ensure high quality program delivery.

Longtime Homeowner Assistance Program

The Longtime Homeowner Assistance (LHA) program provides property tax bill assistance to help peoples stay in their homes. To learn more, visit the LHA Program page. Find the 2023 application here

HOME Program

Orange County is an entitlement community under U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) HOME Investment Partnership Program, and  receives HOME funding that can be used for a wide variety of affordable housing activities. Orange County’s HOME Consortium is made up of Orange County and the towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough.
