Zero Waste Move In/Move Out
Move In
Use the tip below to reduce your waste when moving to or within Orange County.
Reduce
- Avoid overbuying by taking inventory of what supplies you already have, what can be reused, and what you need.
- Repair items like electronics, clothing, and shoes when possible.
- Check out thrift stores and online reuse marketplaces before buying brand new items.
- Look for furniture, kitchen supplies, and other household items at thrift stores and online reuse marketplaces.
Reuse
- Give supplies and belongings, like books or kitchenware, you no longer use to friends or donate them.
- Bring a reusable water bottle to school instead of using single-use plastic bottles.
- Get creative and turn used items into crafts and décor.
Recycle
- If you buy supplies online, be sure to recycle the cardboard boxes. Corrugated cardboard can be placed in single family curbside carts. Do not put corrugated cardboard in recycling carts at multifamily housing complexes. Recycle separately in corrugated cardboard containers at your complex, the Waste & Recycling Centers, or 24-Hr Drop-Off Sites.
- Plastic mailing envelopes/padded envelopes, air pillows, and other plastic bags/film can be recycled separately with plastic bags/film at the Eubanks Road and Walnut Grove Church Road Waste & Recycling Centers. Do NOT recycle in curbside/single-stream recycling.

Reduce, reuse, and recycle to decrease landfilled waste by using the tips below:
