Curriculum & Schedule


The 2024 Cohort begins Tuesday, Feb. 27. All classes will be in-person only. The class will meet from 6-8 p.m. every other Tuesday night and will meet nine times. Field trips will be held in-person at a location within the county. The graduation ceremony (June 18) will be held in-person prior to the Board of Commissioners meeting at the Whitted Building in Hillsborough.

The first session is an overview of county government. Succeeding sessions will include presentations from various county departments or field trips to either Orange County Animal Services, the Orange County Landfill, the Orange County Main Library, the 911 Center, the Eno River Arts Mill and Seymour Senior Center.

  • Tuesday, March 12 (Department presentations at Whitted Building; Planning, Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation, Health, Department of Social Services)
  • Tuesday, March 26 (Tour of Orange County 911 center and Emergency Services)
  • Tuesday, April 9 (Tour of the Eno River Arts Mill and presentations from Orange County Arts Commission and Elections Department)
  • Tuesday, April 23 (Tour of Orange County Animal Shelter and Animal Services Department presentation)
  • Tuesday, May 7 (Tour of Orange County Library and Tax Department presentation)
  • Tuesday, May 21 (Tour of Orange County Landfill and Solid Waste Department presentation)
  • Tuesday, June 4 (Seymour Senior Center tour and presentation from Department on Aging)
  • Tuesday, June 18 (Graduation ceremony held before BOCC meeting with class recognized at beginning of meeting and presentation from Clerk's office re: volunteer opportunities for Boards and Commissions)
