The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) held its 118th Annual Conference August 21-23 in Pitt County. This year’s theme was “Cultivate: Inspire County Growth.” Orange County was well represented throughout the event.
Honoring Public Service
Orange County Health Director Quintana Stewart was recognized through the Heroic Hands initiative, which celebrates public servants who go above and beyond in service to their communities. The initiative was launched by NCACC President and Warren County Commissioner Tare “T.” Davis to spotlight the critical work of local government employees and emphasize the importance of careers in public service.
Cooperative Extension Award Recognition
The Orange County Cooperative Extension Center was named runner-up for the North Central District Extension County Partnership Award. This recognition highlights the strong partnerships between Extension centers and county governments, which help sustain a robust Extension presence in 101 locations across North Carolina. Each year, one county is chosen from each of the five Extension districts for recognition. County Extension Director Jonathon Smith nominated Orange County, citing the outstanding support provided in resources, advocacy, program development, leadership and community engagement.
