Medicare Premiums are Increasing – Check Your Plan Before December 7 For most, Medicare’s Part B monthly premium will increase from $148.50 to $170.10 on January 1. Virtually all Medicare beneficiaries pay this premium, even if you have a Medicare Advantage Plan. Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period, October 15 – December 7 is your chance to explore your options and possibly change plans to save on other Medicare costs in 2022. While people tend to focus on the premium cost, equally important is what you pay when you pick up your prescriptions or visit your provider. Plans change each year and costs, particularly for your medications, may change dramatically. Many people save hundreds and even thousands of dollars by switching plans, but most can only change during Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period. The Orange County Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) provides free and unbiased assistance to help you explore your options. Meet with a certified counselor for an Annual Medicare Review. We offer in-person appointments at the Seymour Center in Chapel Hill and the Passmore Center in Hillsborough as well as online using Zoom Video Chat. Schedule online at www.orangecountync.gov/ocncSHIIP or call 919-245-4274.

Flu Season is HereWhy get the flu vaccine? It protects you from the flu – and its worst symptoms. It is safe to get your flu vaccine at the same time as a COVID-19 booster or primary series. Go to flu.nc.gov to find out where you can get your flu vaccination.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends vaccination against the flu for everyone 6 months and older with any licensed, age-appropriate flu vaccine. Vaccination is the best way to prevent infection with the flu.
This year, it is more important than ever to get a flu vaccination, considering the continued presence of the COVID-19 viral global pandemic that has already claimed more than 205,000 American lives. Widespread flu and COVID-19 at the same time could overwhelm our health care system, making it hard for people to get medical care they may need.
Millions of Americans get the flu each year. It is estimated that at least 39 million people became sick due to flu-related illness during the 2019-20 flu season, leading to more than 18 million medical visits, 410,000 hospitalizations, and at least 24,000 deaths. Vaccination has been shown to reduce the risk of flu-related illnesses, hospitalizations and deaths.

Employment News: Resumes today are initially reviewed in 6-to-20 seconds! Many businesses use Applicant Tracking Systems to review resumes and select candidates for the next step. Resumes describing only experience and education will not work. Every candidate has these. Employers look for the results of your being involved. Only you have your successes, accomplishments, and achievements. These are what distinguish you from the other candidates. Sometimes these are directly relevant – in the same or similar business segment. Other times these may be indirect, using skills that are transferable across different industries. Read more to discover a suggested easy way to identify your successes and how you can be ready for your next interview!
