Did you miss the May 17th Income Tax Filing Deadline? The Orange County VITA program has closed for the tax season and will reopen in February 2022. If an individual taxpayer is owed a refund, there’s no penalty for filing late. On the other hand, tax owed and not paid by May 17, 2021 is subject to penalties and interest. Where’s My Tax Refund?Although most returns are processed timely and refunds sent within 21 days , the IRS is facing significant delays in processing many tax returns. At last count they are working through a backlog of over 10 million returns that require some level of manual processing. This might be because of a discrepancy between the taxpayer’s request for stimulus payments and IRS records, possible identity theft, or other issues. You can check the status of your refund at www.irs.gov/refunds or by downloading the IRS2Go app.

Suggestions to Improve Your Resume, Cover Letters and InterviewingEmployers tell us that too many resumes they receive from job seekers are ordinary. They also tell us why, and what they would prefer to see. - A concise SUMMARY or PROFILE of the candidate, including not only experience and education, but also, information describing their accomplishments, achievements, successes.
- These should include numbers wherever possible –such as how many people a person managed; how projects in which the candidate was involved as a team member or leader were completed ahead-of-time / or on schedule; how much in revenue or dollars or profits were generated; how many prospects were converted into customers, and more.
- Candidates should tell success stories when they’re being interviewed. These should be told with confidence, comfortably. And these stories should take from one to two minutes, at most, to tell.
Job seeking candidates can really distinguish themselves. Enclosed are thoughts on Identifying Your Own Successes, Resumes and Cover Letters, and Resume Thoughts and Suggestions. If you want help on identifying your successes or developing your own strong resume, we can help. I’m Mike Komives, Employment Specialist. Call me at 919-616-8778, or email me: skomives@orangecountync.gov.
