Please join us for our annual program co-sponsored with NCCU Alumni Orange County Chapter as we welcome our guest speaker, Danita Mason-Hogans. She is a native of Chapel Hill and comes from seven generations of “movement people”. She has also been an education activist for over 30 years and is employed with the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University where she serves as Program Manager for the Critical Oral Histories program. Heartfulness MeditationWeekly meditation sessions last 25 - 30 min with a simple relaxation technique and a guided group meditation. These meditation techniques are effective and simple and something that can easily be integrated into one's life style. SENIOR LUNCH PROGRAM The Senior Lunch Program offers hot, nutritious meals at the Orange County Senior Centers each Monday through Friday at noon. Meals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Orange County residents 60 years and older are invited to participate. For people under age 60, a meal costs $6. Voluntary and confidential donations for lunch are a very important part of the Program's budget which includes funding from the Older Americans Act, Orange County Government, and the Towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough.

The Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) provides free, unbiased education and assistance with Medicare. We can help you understand when and how to enroll, how to choose between the different Medicare options, and how to read your Medicare statements. We offer regular classes at both Senior Centers and the public libraries in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough. Or, you may choose to meet one-on-one with a Certified SHIIP Counselor to discuss your specific needs. Appointments with Certified Counselors are available at the Passmore Center and the Seymour Center. You can schedule your appointment online or call us at 919-245-4274.

Gratitude Basket – Law Enforcement AppreciationTo thank those who serve our community, we will deliver a basket of homemade goodness. If you would like to help put the baskets together, or donate an item, please call Terry at 919-245-2016 or register at the front desk. In honor of Law Enforcement Day, we will gather at 9 am to put the items in the baskets and travel to the Hillsborough Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. NC Museum of Art - "Live" Virtual Tour Take a virtual stroll through the galleries as our guide from NCMA uses their state-of-the-art technology cart to show and explain art works in real time (and enjoy closer views than are possible in person!). The main focus of this tour is a colorful painting by American impressionist Frederick Frieseke, The Garden Parasol. This and similar paintings will give us a refreshing taste of summer in the middle of winter. Max: 80

VOLUNTEER WITH VITAThe Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is sponsored by the IRS and provides free tax assistance for eligible low and moderate income taxpayers of any age. We have over 70 volunteers and complete over 1,500 tax returns from February-April each year. Tax help is provided at both the Seymour Center and the Passmore Center. Volunteers assist in a variety of roles including office assistance, receptionist, computer support as well as tax preparers. Orientation Sessions for new volunteers will start in October.
