Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 

We celebrate the legacy and life of Martin Luther King Jr and all that he accomplished - his courage and nonviolent protests. He will forever be remembered.  Please join us for our annual program co-sponsored with NCCU Alumni Orange County Chapter as we welcome our guest speaker, Danita Mason-Hogans.  She is a native of Chapel Hill and comes from seven generations of “movement people”. She has also been an education activist for over 30 years and is employed with the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University where she serves as Program Manager for the Critical Oral Histories program. Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration! - The Year of the Rat

The most important Chinese holiday is the Lunar New Year, which is known in China as Spring Festival, and in other Asian cultures as Lunar New Year. The festival ushers in the Lunar New Year and is the West’s Christmas and New Year’s Eve rolled into one. Enjoy a variety of entertainment followed by a reception with traditional snacks to celebrate. All are welcome. Min: 50/Max: 100

Heartfulness Meditation

Weekly meditation sessions last 25 - 30 min with a simple relaxation technique and a guided group meditation. These meditation techniques are effective and simple and something that can easily be integrated into one's life style. The sessions are open to everyone irrespective of religion, nationality, personal beliefs or other demographics.  No prior experience necessary.

Regular meditation helps:

• Improve cardiovascular health
• Reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety
• Increase coping and problem-solving skills
• Decrease burnout

Help prepare and serve lunch from 11:30 - 1:00 pm at the Seymour Center. Interested? Please call Isabel Jackson, 919-245-4256. 

 SENIOR LUNCH PROGRAM 

The Senior Lunch Program offers hot, nutritious meals at the Orange County Senior Centers each Monday through Friday at noon. Meals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Orange County residents 60 years and older are invited to participate. For people under age 60, a meal costs $6. Voluntary and confidential donations for lunch are a very important part of the Program's budget which includes funding from the Older Americans Act, Orange County Government, and the Towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough.

Gratitude Basket – Law Enforcement Appreciation

To thank those who serve our community, we will deliver a basket of homemade goodness.  If you would like to help put the baskets together, or donate an item, please call Terry at 919-245-2016 or register at the front desk.  In honor of Law Enforcement Day, we will gather at 9 am to put the items in the baskets and travel to the Hillsborough Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. If you plan to donate items please bring them to the Passmore Center on Jan 7.

NC Museum of Art - "Live" Virtual Tour 

Take a virtual stroll through the galleries as our guide from NCMA uses their state-of-the-art technology cart to show and explain art works in real time (and enjoy closer views than are possible in person!).  The main focus of this tour is a colorful painting by American impressionist Frederick Frieseke, The Garden Parasol.  This and similar paintings will give us a refreshing taste of summer in the middle of winter.
