The Orange County Human Relations Commission (HRC) operates under a set of policies and procedures designed to ensure the consistency and integrity of our work toward promoting harmonious relationships in Orange County. These policies and procedures guide our mission, structure, responsibilities, and how we engage with the public.
Key Policies & Procedures
- Mission & Responsibilities
- The HRC works to foster positive human relations and address discrimination in Orange County.
- Our responsibilities include community engagement, policy recommendations, and advise the Orange County Board of Commissioners to matters relating to human relations.
- Membership & Leadership
- The Commission is composed of 12 appointed members who serve no more than two consecutive terms of three years each.
- Leadership roles included Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary, elected annually.
- Meetings & Decision-Making
- The HRC holds monthly meetings to discuss ongoing projects, initiatives and community concerns.
- Decisions are made through a voting process, with a quorum required for official actions.
- Community Engagement & Public Participation
- The HRC serves as a community partner and resource for individuals facing discrimination or addressing matters impacting human relations in Orange County.
- While we do not enforce legal action, we guide individuals to appropriate resources and advocate policy changes.
