Biography

Jamezetta enjoyed growing up as an Army brat living in Germany, Virginia, California, Hawaii and Utah before graduating from McLean High in NOVA. She earned a B.A. in mathematics from the University of Virginia in 1980 as an Echols Scholar. She taught math in Lexington, Virginia for two years and then moved with her husband Ed to Baltimore where she worked in pension planning. She and Ed along with their three children moved to Chapel Hill in 1992 to benefit from the services available for their autistic daughter. Jamezetta has been an active volunteer and advocate for citizens with disabilities; her dedication to this cause is reflected in her terms on the board of directors and as president of the local chapter of the Autism Society of North Carolina. After volunteering extensively in the district schools with PTAs and SGCs, and substitute teaching for five years, she was elected to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board in 2003, 2007 and 2011, serving three times as Vice Chair and three times as Chair. She served as President of the Democratic Women of Orange County from August 2016 until May 2018 and continues to volunteer with the group. In 2003 she also entered the Master of Accounting program at UNC-CH, graduating in May 2004. She earned her CPA license in September 2005 and works at a local firm doing tax work for small businesses, trusts and estates, nonprofits and individuals. During her free time, she most enjoys spending time with her family, especially playing with her two young grandchildren who live in Carrboro.
