Are you a LGBTQ Caregiver?We need your help! Would you like to be a part of impacting services for LGTBQ older adults in Orange County? SAGE* will be conducting focus groups for LGBTQ personal caregivers beginning September in different locations throughout the Triangle. If there is enough response, one of those focus groups will be held in Orange County.

Uber / Lyft Pilot Program and Mobility on Demand SurveyThe Orange County Public Transportation department will be launching an Uber/Lyft pilot called “mobility on demand” later this fall (dates to be determined). They are currently seeking public input on how they would like this service to operate. This program has great potential to fill in the transportation gap for so many of our older adults. Seeking Volunteers!Seeking older adults to be interviewed by UNC graduate students preparing for speech-language pathology or audiology careers. The interviews will help the students better understand and appreciate the life course of adults 65+, and how significant events (historical, personal, etc.) may have impacted their lives.

Veterans Services Officer at Senior Centers! Ivan Sarabia, Orange County’s Veterans Services Officer, sees clients at both senior centers, by appointment only, in addition to his office at 113-B Mayo Street, Hillsborough. He will explore and explain health, financial aid, and other benefits veterans and/or family members may be eligible to receive.
Appointments are available Tuesday mornings 9 am – 12 noon at the Seymour Center and Thursday Mornings from 9 am—12 noon at the Passmore Center. To make an appointment, call Ivan at 919-245-2890 or email isarabia@orangecountync.gov.
W(heel) to Hill – Cycling Event!A casual bike ride from the Seymour Center in Chapel Hill to the Passmore Center in Hillsborough. The ride starts and ends at the Seymour Center, and features two out and back routes that can be combined for a total of 25, 37 or 50 miles. Pick up a registration form at one of our senior centers, Carrboro Recreation & Parks, Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation, or Orange County Dept. of Environment, Agriculture, Parks & Recreation.Seymour Center Sunday, October 27, 1 pm Check-in: 12 - 1 pm

SENIOR LUNCH PROGRAM The Senior Lunch Program offers hot, nutritious meals at the Orange County Senior Centers each Monday through Friday at noon. Meals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Orange County residents 60 years and older are invited to participate. For people under age 60, a meal costs $6. Voluntary and confidential donations for lunch are a very important part of the Program's budget which includes funding from the Older Americans Act, Orange County Government, and the Towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough.

VOLUNTEER WITH VITAThe Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is sponsored by the IRS and provides free tax assistance for eligible low and moderate income taxpayers of any age. We have over 70 volunteers and complete over 1,500 tax returns from February-April each year.
Tax help is provided at both the Seymour Center and the Passmore Center. Volunteers assist in a variety of roles including office assistance, receptionist, computer support as well as tax preparers. Orientation Sessions for new volunteers will start in October.
