Vaccinate your pet for rabies

Vaccinate Your Pet For Rabies

Rabies is a fatal virus. Protect your pets and your family by making sure your pets are vaccinated against rabies.
It is a requirement in North Carolina that all cats, dogs, and ferrets over 4 months of age be vaccinated against rabies. Vaccinations are typically available from any licensed veterinarian in your area.

Orange County Animal Services also hosts low-cost rabies vaccination clinics. See more information about low-cost rabies vaccination clinics on this page.

License Your Pet!

If You Love Them, LICENSE THEM!

All dogs and cats living in Orange County North Carolina must be licensed.

BENEFITS OF LICENSING:

  • Will help return your lost pet to you.
  • Helps pets and people in our community.
  • Assists with public health: rabies virus prevention in pets and people.
  • Avoids a fine of up to $200 for an unlicensed pet (regular licensing fees cost $0 - $50).

You may mail a check or drop by the Animal Services Center in Chapel Hill to make a license payment, but the easiest way to pay is online. Visit www.orangecountync.gov/343/Licensing for more information.

Spay or neuter your pets

Spaying And Neutering Saves Lives

No-cost and low-cost spaying and neutering options are available. These programs help eliminate the ongoing problem of pet overpopulation we face as a community. Spaying and neutering pets can also improve your pet’s health by lowering the risk of some diseases and other medical issues. Other issues (such as aggression, going into heat, territorial marking, or roaming) may also be improved once pets are spayed or neutered.

Do you have free-roaming cats (sometimes called Working Cats) on your property that need to be spayed or neutered? We may be able to help!

Please visit  this page for more information about spaying and neutering.
