  2. NATURE TRAIL WALK for English & Spanish Speakers: SEVEN MILE CREEK NATURE PARK

    The Seven Mile Creek Natural Area is a portion of a larger 366 acre Upper Eno Nature Preserve. It includes portions of two significant natural heritage areas - the “Crabtree Creek Monadnock Ridge” and the “Seven-mile Creek - Sugar Maple Bottom.” Approximately 2.0 miles. Walking difficulty: Easy, but with some tree roots and uneven surfaces. Leader: Rich Shaw, retired Orange County Land Conservation Manager accompanied by a Spanish speaking interpreter.

A licensed attorney will present on legal topics relevant to senior citizens. We will show a documentary film series, Latino Americans that was shown on PBS and chronicles the rich and varied history and experiences of Latinos, who have helped shape North America the last 500+ years. With more than 50 million people, they are the largest minority group in the US. NOTE: FILMS ARE IN SPANISH WITH ENGLISH SUB-TITLES. Thu, Oct 24 – This takes viewers through the past 30 years, when a second wave of Cubans arrived in Miami during the Mariel exodus. With hundreds of thousands of Salvadorans, Nicaraguans and Guatemalans fleeing civil wars, death squads and unrest also went north into a new land — transforming the United States along the way.

In this workshop, Peter – a veteran editor who has worked with Stephen Hawking, Deepak Chopra, and Carol Burnett – will review the Emeralds before leading a journaling exercise. “Emeralds of Oz” will be available for purchase. These meditation techniques are effective and simple and it’s something that can easily integrate into one's life style without any disruption.   10. Volunteer with VITA - Seymour

    The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is sponsored by the IRS and provides free tax assistance for eligible low and moderate income taxpayers of any age. We have over 70 volunteers and complete over 1,500 tax returns from February-April each year. Tax help is provided at both the Seymour Center and the Passmore Center. Volunteers assist in a wide variety of roles, including: Tax Preparers (requires IRS Tax Law training), Intake Receptionists greet clients, explain the process, and organize paperwork, Appointment Schedulers answer phones and return voicemails to schedule clients for a specific day and time, and Our Computer Support team is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining our Windows laptops and printers.
