Youth Summer Basketball League, Ages 5-15, Register by May 10

Youth Summer Basketball League

Register by Friday, May 10 for the Orange County Recreation Youth Summer Basketball League.  The league is a developmental program for boys and girls ages 5- to 15-years-old.  The fee is $53.

Players in our 5-6-year-old division will meet one hour per week; the pre-season will be practice only and once games begin the hour will be split with 30 minutes for practice and 30 minutes for a game.  Players in divisions for 7-year-olds and up will begin with a preseason of one weeknight practice and one Saturday practice per week.  Once games begin, players will have one practice and one game per week.  All teams are co-recreational.  

You can register in person Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Central Recreation Center (302 West Tryon Street, Hillsborough), or online anytime at http://www.orangecountync.gov/activityregistration.

Fishing Rodeo, Saturday, May 11, Blackwood Farm Park, 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

Orange County Fishing Rodeo

The annual Youth Fishing Rodeo for children aged 3- to 15-years-old will be held on Saturday, May 11, 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. This is a free event that will be held at Blackwood Farm Park, 4215 NC 86 South, Hillsborough. 

Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. The fishing will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a free hot dog lunch and awards ceremony at 11:00 a.m..  Prizes will be awarded for the following:  most creative hat, first fish caught overall, smallest fish by age division, and largest fish by age division. Rain date is May 12, 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. 

The Fishing Rodeo is an annual community event intended to expose children to the joys of fishing.  The rodeo is co-sponsored by Orange County Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks, and Recreation; Carrboro Parks and Recreation Department; and Orange County Cooperative Extension 4-H.
