Public Health Week 2023

April 3-9 is National Public Health Week

Orange County Health Department would like to celebrate National Public Health Week (NPHW)!

The American Public Health Association has chosen the theme this year as “Centering and Celebrating Cultures in Health.” Feeling like we belong, being a part of our communities and fostering cultural connections supports our health and the quality of our lives. As we celebrate the 28th NPHW, April 3-9, we want everyone to know they can make their communities healthier, safer and stronger when we support and stay engaged with one another. As we adjust and adapt to new social norms, we’re focusing not just on what we can do as individuals, but what we can do as communities to protect, prioritize and influence the future of public health.

For more information, please view the NPHW website.

Talk Test Treat

April 9-15, 2023 is STI Awareness Week

STI Awareness Week, observed the second full week in April, provides an opportunity to raise awareness about STIs and how they impact our lives; reduce STI-related stigma, fear, and discrimination; and ensure people have the tools and knowledge for prevention, testing, and treatment.

Black Maternal Health Week

April 11-17 is Black Maternal Health Week

Held annually on April 11-17th, Black Maternal Health Week is a week-long campaign founded and led by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance to build awareness, activism, and community-building to amplify the voices, perspectives and lived experiences of Black Mamas and birthing people. The week is intentionally held during National Minority Health Month and begins on April 11th annually to join dozens of global organizations in marking this day as International Day for Maternal Health and Rights – an opportunity to advocate for the elimination of maternal mortality globally.

National Minority Health Month

April is National Minority Health Month

Every April, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) observes National Minority Health Month to highlight the importance of improving the health of racial and ethnic minority and American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities and reducing health disparities.

OMH is proud to announce the theme for National Minority Health Month 2023: Better Health Through Better Understanding.

This year’s theme focuses on improving health outcomes for racial and ethnic minority and AI/AN communities by providing them with culturally and linguistically competent healthcare services, information, and resources. When patients are provided with culturally and linguistically appropriate information, they are empowered to create healthier outcomes for themselves and their communities.
