Families Encouraged to File Federal Income Taxes to Access Full Benefits of the Child Tax Credit
With tax season quickly approaching, North Carolina families are encouraged to file their federal income taxes to ensure they access their full, expanded Child Tax Credit, as well as other federal benefits. Many families received about half of their tax credit payments in monthly payments in 2021 but will receive the rest of the money they are owed by filing their federal income taxes this year. The Child Tax Credit is fully refundable, meaning that even families who owe little or no federal tax should still file to get their credits.

Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) will host a low-cost rabies vaccination clinic on Saturday, February 26, 2022. This is a drive-through clinic that will be held in Chapel Hill, NC. These low-cost clinics help to ensure that cats and dogs are current on their vaccinations, while providing pet owners with substantial savings on this service. The clinic will offer 1-year and 3-year vaccinations for $10. Pet owners will need to have a previous rabies certificate in hand to receive the 3-year vaccine. A tag alone is not sufficient. The date, time, and location of the clinic are as follows: - Saturday, February 26, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Park & Ride lot on Eubanks Road in Chapel Hill, NC (see map here)
- This is a drive-through clinic and OCAS is asking that everyone stay in their car and wear a mask when interacting with staff or volunteers.
Microchips will also be offered at this clinic for $35 each. Owners can choose to have a pet receive only a microchip, only a rabies vaccine, or both. If you are bringing a cat to this clinic, please make sure the cat is in a secure carrier. OCAS would like to thank everyone advance for their patience as many participants are expected. When will Ages 6 Months to Five-years-old be Able to be Vaccinated Against COVID-19? A U.S. decision on Pfizer and BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine for infants and children 6 months through 4 years of age has been postponed for at least two months after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it needed more data.
The FDA said parents anxiously awaiting the vaccine for the roughly 18 million children in the age group should be reassured that the agency is taking the time to make sure it meets the standard it has set for authorization.

Don’t Delay. Test Soon and Treat Early
If you test positive for COVID-19 and have one or more health conditions that increase your risk of becoming very sick, treatment may be available.
Contact a health professional right away after a positive test to determine if you may be eligible, even if your symptoms are mild right now. Don’t delay: Treatment must be started within the first few days to be effective.
Treatments used for COVID-19 should be prescribed by your healthcare provider. People have been seriously harmed and even died after taking products not approved for use to treat or prevent COVID-19, even products approved or prescribed for other uses. Talk to your healthcare provider about what option may be best for you.
