At its March 7 meeting, the Orange County Board of Commissioners proclaimed March as Women's History Month and honored the many women who broke gender barriers in the community, serving in various political and leadership roles.
In 1993, the Orange County Women's Commission compiled a list of names of women who had achieved the distinction of being the first female to achieve a prominent position in the county. The list included the first women to serve as elected leaders in the county and municipalities, the first women police officers, the first women to serve on the Elections Board, etc.
