NC Works/ Skills Development Center
Overview
The Orange County Skills Development Center is a one-stop shop that assists individuals in seeking and obtaining employment as well as access education and training. The Center also offers referrals to community based agencies for assistance with additional needs, all of which is free of charge, and open to all members of the public.
NC Works can also aid employers in addressing the employment needs of their company. Staff provides talent management strategies and solutions to meet your specific needs at little to no cost.
Staff can help employers address:
- Skills Gaps: Access training resources for your employees that offer on-the-job instruction as well as off-site classes at local colleges and other training avenues to help you retain a vital and talented workforce
- Staffing Challenges: We recruit, screen, and provide you with qualified applicants so that you can quickly fill critical openings with the right people
Business and job seekers are encouraged to visit NCWorks Online, which is a one-stop online resource for job seekers and employers in North Carolina. Job seekers can search for jobs, create resumes, and find education and training. Employers can find candidates, post jobs, and search labor market information.

Our Partners
The following entities comprise the NC Works Career Center partnership to provide quality workforce services to Orange County businesses and residents:
- Division of Workforce Solutions (DWS): Assists unemployed and underemployed individuals find employment through job coaching, resume assistance, filing unemployment claims, career planning, RESEA’s (Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment Orientation), and EAI’s (Employability Assessment Interview). Helps employers find qualified candidates to fill open positions.
- Durham Technical Community College: Offers GED (General Education Diploma), ESL (English as a Second Language), CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and HRD (Human Resource Development) classes in order to equip individuals with the necessary skills needed for employment.
- Orange County Department of Social Services (DSS): Offers employment and training opportunities through the following programs: Work First, WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) and FNS E&T (Food and Nutrition Service Employment & Training).
- Vocational Rehabilitation (Voc Rehab): Provides employment services, training, counseling, education, transportation, job placement, assistive technology, and other support services to people with disabilities. Also, provide disability awareness workshops for employers and the public.
- Triangle Disability Awareness Council (TDAC): Provides professional workshops and training, sponsors community forums on disability issues, and fosters employment for all residents of the triangle. Targets the job search and workplace education for people with disabilities.
- The National Caucus and Center on Black Aging (NCBA): Provides employment training through its Senior Community Service Employment Program and job placement for qualified seniors, who are 55 years old or older and low income, through the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program.
- Central Piedmont Community Action, Inc. (CPCA): Operates the CSBG (Community Services Block Grant) Program to provide low income individuals and families services to meet their needs such as employment, housing, education and crisis prevention.
- Orange County Literacy Council: Helps adults reach their education, employment, and life goals through free instruction in reading, writing, and basic math. Also offers instruction in the English language and computer skills and GED preparation.
- Veterans Services: Orange County Veterans Services Office offers a wide range of services to our nation's veterans, service members and their families. Our office provides advice on Veterans Administration benefits and assistance with filing and tracking those claims as well as obtaining, retaining, or reinstating numerous benefits offered by the federal, state, and local government.
