How do I apply for a position?
Click on the Applicant Login link and follow the instructions for creating an applicant account. You can now apply for jobs online.
How can I get a listing of the current openings?
All opened positions are posted on the website. Click on "Job Opportunities" You can also hear a listing about our current openings by calling the Orange County Job Information Line.
What is the application process?
Applications are accepted for open positions only. Applications must be submitted by the deadline which is 11:59pm (eastern time zone) on closing date. Once the closing date is over, all applications received will be screened based on minimum qualificaitions and placed on an eligible ranking list. A referral list of candidates is sent to the hiring department. The hiring department will determine who should be invited to an interview for the position and conducts interviews. Candidates being offered an interview may not be contacted immediately following the closing date. Simply fulfilling the minimum requirements for a position does not assure an interview. Orange County reserves the right to re-advertise positions or to delay or cancel the filling of a position. If you need special assistance, in any way, in the employment process, please contact us.
To check on recruitment status, login into your account. If the status is not posted within two weeks of the closing, feel free to contact us.

Is there a waiting list for positions that you do not have posted on the Job Opportunities list?
No, Orange County does not have a waiting lists for positions, however, if you are interested in a position that is not advertised, you may complete a position interest card by clicking on "Job Interest Cards." For the next 12 months after you submit this form, you will receive an email notification each time a position opens with Orange County NC whose category matches one of the categories you've chosen. We'll also send you a reminder email in 11 months to give you an opportunity at that time to extend your notifications for another year.
Can I submit a paper application in stead of applying on line?
For a short time, Orange County will continue to receive paper applications. However, you are encouraged to apply on-line. Once you have established an onine account. it will be efficient and easier for you to apply for other jobs. For paper applications click on the following links:
A copy of a completed application is acceptable. A resume may not be submitted in lieu of an application, but may be included to supplement the application. Please read the position advertisement carefully to be sure your background meets the requirements of the position. On your application, show your specific qualifications which relate to the position.
