Shaping Orange County's Future (SOCF)
Thegroundworkfortheupdateofthe Land Use Element began in 1996 whenagroupof30citizens (SOCFTaskForce)beganworkona comprehensivequalitygrowthandcommunity-buildingplanforOrange County,laterknown asShaping Orange Countys Future (SOCF).Eight individualcitizencommitteeswereformedtoidentify andresearch key issuesanddefinepreliminarygoals.After400hoursofmeetings, communityforums,outreachactivities, andbrainstormingsessions,the Task Forcedeveloped a visionand a set ofrecommendations for Orange Countys future. In April 2000, the entire report was adopted.Even though theTask Force has completed its original purpose, the recommendation to integrateSOCF goalsand strategiesinto future comprehensiveplans for the County and municipalities makes SOCF an important part of the current Land Use Element update.
