Orange County Government announces schedule adjustments for Thanksgiving holidays

ORANGE COUNTY, NC (November 17, 2017) - Orange County administrative offices will close Thursday, Nov. 23, and Friday, Nov. 24, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. County offices will re-open and all employees will return on Monday, Nov. 27, and resume regular business hours.

Please be advised of these additional changes in normal operating hours for the following Orange County departments or services.

Animal Services

Any 9-1-1 calls for emergency animal control services will be answered on a 24-hour schedule on Thursday and Friday. The after-hours drop location will also be open and checked throughout both days, as usual. The Animal Services Center will be open for regular business on Saturday.

Libraries                                                               

All library locations will resume regular operating hours on Saturday.

Parks and Recreation

All Orange County Parks and Recreation facilities are closed Thanksgiving Day. Little River Regional Park will reopen at 8 a.m. on Friday, and Blackwood Farm Park will reopen at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

The Central Recreation Center Gym will be closed through Sunday and will reopen on Monday.

The Cedar Grove Community Center and the Efland Cheeks Community Center will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Public Transportation (OPT)

There will be no service for the Hillsborough Circulator or the Orange-Chapel Hill Midday Shuttle on Thursday or Friday. OPT will operate limited service serving the in-county dialysis route only (Carolina Dialysis). Full service will resume on Monday.

Recycling, Landfill, and Solid Waste Convenience Centers

  • Curbside recycling will not be collected on Thanksgiving Day. HOLIDAY MAKE-UP DAY is Saturday, Nov. 26. If your scheduled recycling day falls on Thanksgiving Day, set out your recycling cart or bins by 7 a.m. on Saturday instead.
  • Waste and Recycling Centers will be CLOSED Thursday, November 24. Normal hours resume on Friday, November 25.
  • Orange County Landfill along with associated services such as mulch sales and the Household Hazardous Waste collection on Eubanks Rd. will be closed Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25. Normal hours at the landfill will resume Saturday, November 26.

Senior Centers

The Seymour Center and the Passmore Center will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Both locations will resume regular hours on Saturday.
