Orange County to host Technology Expo for Seniors
ORANGE COUNTY, NC (September 28, 2017)—The Orange County Department on Aging is proud to present Making Technology Easier for Seniors, a technology expo featuring workshops to maximize the benefits of smart technology.
The Expo will take place on Saturday, October 21, at the Seymour Center in Chapel Hill from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. In the contemporary world, smart devices have made life much easier and more comfortable. Experts will share practical information on getting the most out of these devices.
The program is free. Participants must register by Saturday, October 14 by calling the Seymour Center at 919-968-2070.
Workshop Details and Schedule
Session 1 – How smart is your Smartphone?
Smartphones are without a doubt an excellent means of communication. Bring your smartphone for one-on-one assistance in unraveling the secrets of using it. No device - no problem! Join us anyway for a day of learning fun.
Session 2 – The ABC’s of Computers- iPads, Androids, Tablets
Learn computing applications and how they can be an invaluable tool for advancing and enhancing the world in which you live.
Session 3 – FUNTASTIC Fun with Smart TV Platforms
Are you bored and drifting off to sleep while watching the same channels day after day on television? Well, Wake up! Your Smart TV is a new innovative and interactive way of on screen viewing. Learn the various applications that can help you save money and change your viewing experience.
Session 4 – What happened to the telephone?
Why Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Email? Learn the various social media features on your smart devices and how to use them. Connecting to social media can improve your quality of life through interactive communication and entertainment experiences.
eReaders and eBooks – How to use a Kindle, how to download free books from the library on your kindle, phone, or tablet.
Privacy and Security – How to make strong passwords and simple ways to stay safe online.
Uber and Lyft –What makes Uber and Lyft different from a taxi ride? Learn how to get started, what rides cost, how to tell if a driver is trustworthy.
Each session will be offered 4 times throughout the day. A continental breakfast will be provided from 9:30 – 10 a.m., as will snacks in the afternoon. Participants who stay to the end will be eligible for special door prizes.
The Seymour Center is located at 2551 Homestead Road in Chapel Hill.
