ORANGE COUNTY, NC (July 19, 2017) - One major way citizens can have a positive impact on the future of Orange County is to volunteer to serve on the various County advisory boards and commissions.

The Board of County Commissioners appoints representatives to the Human Relations Commission.  This commission seeks to prevent and/or eliminate bias and discrimination by means of education, persuasion, conciliation and enforcement.  It also advises the Board of County Commissioners with recommendations designed to promote goodwill and harmony among groups in the County irrespective of their race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, national origin, sex, affectional preference, disability, age, marital status or status with regard to public assistance.

Presently, vacancies exist for Chapel Hill City Limits, Carrboro Town Limits, Hillsborough Town Limits representation, and several At-Large positions.

Orange County strives for diversity on volunteer advisory boards.  Minorities are encouraged to apply.  Applicants must reside in Orange County.  Volunteers appointed by the Board of County Commissioners have an opportunity to influence the way of life in Orange County.
