Orange County Main Library to reopen Saturday, Jan. 14
ORANGE COUNTY, NC (January 11, 2017) -- The Orange County Main Public Library (137 W. Margaret Lane, Hillsborough) will be closed through Friday, Jan. 13, because of significant flooding that occurred during the winter storm. All classes and special events scheduled for the library for Thursday and Friday, Jan. 12-13, have been cancelled.
A malfunction in an HVAC unit on the roof caused water to leak into the building, damaging areas and collections on the first and second floors, said library director Lucinda Munger. The specific cause for the malfunction has not been determined.
“Cleaning crews and library staff are working diligently,” said Munger. “Our first priority is to ensure the library is safe and accessible for all of our customers. We are grateful no injuries resulted from this incident and look forward to opening our doors as soon as we can.”
The Cybrary and the Carrboro Branch at McDougle Middle School will follow normal operating hours.
