ORANGE COUNTY, NC (NOVEMBER 2, 2016) — The Orange County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, Nov. 1, approved a new online financial data reporting tool called Residents Transparency. This online database will make county financial information available to the public. The database will be accessible on Wednesday, Nov. 2, through a link provided on the Orange County website (

“The Orange County Board of Commissioners is committed to conducting the business of government in an open and transparent fashion,” said Board Chair Earl McKee. “This online tool will give residents access to the financial records of our county so they can see we are being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.”

The data will be made available through Residents Transparency, a product of Tyler Technologies. The tool allows residents to understand how their tax dollars are being used by sharing almost real-time data at a department level. The tool features easy-to-navigate graphics with data organized by category, department, function, fund and vendor. Many local governments across the nation are using this tool to enhance civic engagement.

“This online financial portal represents our commitment to providing timely and readily accessible information to the public, and serves as another means to foster civic engagement,” said Gary Donaldson, Orange County Chief Financial Officer.

Residents Transparency satisfies the Board’s Social Justice Goal to enable full civic participation in government.
