ORANGE COUNTY, NC (September 7, 2016)—The Orange County Department on Aging is proud to present the Brain Health Academy, a six-week educational program on achieving a healthy lifestyle and overall brain health.

The Academy will take place at the Passmore Center in Hillsborough from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. every Thursday beginning September 22 and culminating in a graduation ceremony on October 27.  Experts will share practical information and up-to-date research at each session.

The program is free. However, space is limited and participants must register by Tuesday, September 20.

Thu, Sep 22: Keynote Address: The keynote address will be deliveredby Alice S. Ammerman, DrPH. Dr. Ammerman is the director of the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, and professor of nutrition at the Gillings School of Global Public Health and School of Medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill. 

Thu, Sep 29:  Module I - Nutrition for a Healthy Brain & Body: Eating for brain health – what is good for the body is good for the brain.        

Thu, Oct 6:   Module II - Exercise Your Best Brain:Importance of physical activity for optimal brain health

Thu, Oct 13: Module III - Managing Life’s Transitions:The importance of adopting a stress management system to support life transitions

Thu, Oct 20: Module IV - Social Engagement:Optimize longevity and happiness through meaningful activities and relationships

Thu, Oct 27: Module V – Maximizing and Maintaining Cognition:Hearing, Music and Dance, Novel Learning, and Medication Management
