Katie Murray Named Orange County Arts Commission Coordinator

ORANGE COUNTY, NC (August 11, 2016) -- Katie Murray has been selected to serve as the new Coordinator of the Orange County Arts Commission.  Created in 1985 by the Orange County Board of Commissioners, the Arts Commission promotes the artistic and cultural development in Orange County.  The program is part of Orange County government and is guided by a fifteen-member citizen advisory commission.

A 15-year leader in arts management, Murray most recently served as Executive Director of the Arts of Albemarle in Elizabeth City, NC, where she supervised the day-to-day operations of the regional arts council and cultural arts center, including a staff of ten, with oversight of a $550k annual operating budget. 

Arts of the Albemarle (AoA) is a regional non-profit arts council (representing Pasquotank, Gates and Camden Counties) located in Downtown Elizabeth City, North Carolina.  The facility houses the Jaquelin Jenkins Gallery, which is home to over 250 artists, craftsman and photographers; the AoA School of the Arts; and the Maguire Theatre, a 230-seat performance space.

Murray’s previous roles included marketing director for Elizabeth City State University and a marketing role with Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Murray holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Elon University.
