Portion of Hawkins Road To Close For Bridge Replacement in Orange County
GREENSBORO — N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to replace the bridge carrying Hawkins Road Bridge over South Fork Little River between Wilkerson Road and N.C. 86 just North of Hillsborough.
Work will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, March 28. The new bridge should be open by August.
Motorists will navigate around the work using an offsite detour using Olin Road and Caviness Jordan Road.
The project is part of the department’s overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state’s bridges. Built in 1955, the existing bridge is functionally obsolete and no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
