Immunizations
Immunizations are provided by appointment at both Orange County Health Department clinic locations (Hillsborough and Chapel Hill).
Available Immunizations
All required vaccines and many recommended vaccines are available at the Health Department. Click here for a current listing of available vaccines. Some are free of charge for certain high-risk groups and others are available for a fee. Persons paying for a vaccine will be given a receipt that can be submitted to his/her health insurance provider.
Child Immunization Update
Immunizations required by North Carolina Immunization Law have been available free of charge to all children. Due to budget cuts at the state level, the availability of free childhood vaccines will be more limited. Children with Medicaid or who are uninsured will continue to be able to receive free vaccines. Children with health insurance coverage that does not cover the entire cost of vaccines are those who are most likely to have to pay. We will make every effort to keep our vaccine availability and pricing information up to date. We will advise parents of charges before vaccines will be administered. Click here for information on North Carolina Required School Immunizations.
Vaccines for Children (VFC) Eligibility Criteria
Some vaccines are only free for persons who are eligible for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program. To be eligible, children must be 18 years of age or younger and meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Medicaid eligible
- Uninsured
- American Indian
- Alaskan Native
- Underinsured (Private insurance coverage does not include vaccines)
- Unaccompanied minor without proof of insurance presenting to local health department Title X clinics
