Free Vaccine Eligibility Requirements for Special Groups


Children eligible for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program can receive a free flu vaccination.  Eligibility guidelines for the VFC Program state that a child must be 6 months through 18 years of age and at least one of the following:

  • Medicaid eligible
  • Uninsured
  • American Indian or Alaskan Native
  • Underinsured (has private insurance that does not include vaccines, covers only selected vaccines, or caps vaccine coverage at a certain amount and once the cap is reached, are categorized as underinsured)
  • Unaccompanied minor without proof of insurance coming to a local health department Title X clinic

Pregnant Women - Females age 19 or older who are pregnant during the flu season, do not have Medicaid and are Health Department clients are eligible for free vaccine from the state.

College Students - Persons of any age attending a North Carolina college or university can receive a free flu vaccination as long as supplies last.

Health Care Workers can receive free flu vaccine as long as supplies last.
