A-Z Recyclery

The A-Z Recyclery is a (mostly) local directory to divert some common and not so commonly recycled items from landfill disposal.  It is a living document with over 85 entries. It is by no means complete, and sometimes can become out-of-date.  If you know of an organization or individual who would accept items for reuse, repair or recycling that belong on this list, please let us know at recycling@orangecountync.gov. If there is a material you have a question about, tell us!  We'll investigate and add it to the A-Z. If you see an entry that is no longer current, let us know that too.  The purpose of this list is to divert resources from landfill disposal, and educate about Orange County's Solid Waste Management programs, not to promote any particular business.

Reuse is better than recycling!  The A-Z Recyclery refers to some reuse-oriented businesses for specific items.  However, for "random" used but useful items consider offering them for reuse at:

  • The Scrap Exchange in Durham; the premier creative reuse center in the southeast that accepts a wide variety of reusable materials from industry and individuals.
  • FreeCycle.org is an online community of reusers, and there is a local group based in Chapel Hill. You have to sign up with an email and password but after that you can post materials to give away, or take advantage of what others are offering.

Visit their websites for details of accepted items and other rules.
