Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program
The Waiting List for the Orange County Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is Closed and the Department of Housing, Human Rights and Community Development is not Accepting Applications at this Time
The Housing Voucher Choice program, commonly referred to as Section 8, is a program that provides rental assistance to families and individuals who find themselves at or below fifty percent of the county median income for their family size. Designed to provide long-term rental assistance, the program helps people rent from property owners on the private market. The program serves families with children, elderly and disabled individuals, as well as families with members who are disabled.
Participating families or individuals pay a portion of their monthly income toward their rent, with Orange County Housing and Community Development paying the balance directly to the property owner. There are limitations on the amount of rent a property owner can charge under the program, as well as limitation to the size of housing units a family may rent based on their family size, but the program allows lower income families the opportunity to rent decent, safe and adequate housing that may not be available to them otherwise.
This is a list of federally assisted housing programs and housing complexes in Orange County to assist you in your efforts to locate suitable, affordable housing. Please understand that many of these programs and complexes also have a waiting list and may not be able to provide immediate housing assistance.
