About the Park:

Phase I expansion of Fairview Park: Site Plan

In 2001, Orange County voters approved a Parks and Open Space bond that earmarked $850,000 for this project.  In 2004, the County and the town of Hillsborough agreed to work together to create a master plan for the entire 92-acre site by adopting a Memorandum of Agreement along these lines, reflecting both the existing and planned uses on the Public Works site and potential future uses for a park. In October 2005, an appointed Fairview Public Campus Master Plan Committee began work to develop a proposed Master Plan. Over the next four months the Committee met on four occasions to create the Master Plan and Recommendations Report. The Plan includes a ball field, two basketball courts, a quarter-mile walking track, a picnic shelter, horseshoe pits, a volleyball court, walking trails, and a new playground. (A future phase will include 3 tennis courts and additional parking.)

On May 19, 2009 bids for construction of phase I of the park were received with McQueen Construction of Bahama, North Carolina as low bidder.  On August 21, 2009 The North Carolina Parks and Recreation Authority has awarded $500,000 from the N.C. Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) for continued development of Fairview Park in Hillsborough.  Phase I construction of the park is expected to begin in the fall of 2009 with completion projected to be in fall of 2010.
