The Animal Services Department is responsible for Animal Control and Animal Sheltering activities within Orange County.  

Its mission is to meet the needs of residents by working with volunteers and other partners to deliver cost-effective and integrated sheltering and animal control services that ensure the health, safety and well being of humans, pets and the community as a whole.  Addressing the problem of pet overpopulation with a proactive and positive approach is an integral ingredient of the department’s mission.

Our AnimalCam is up and running!!  Watch our featured pet room live 24 hours a day! 

Web Licensing is now available for all Annual Pet License renewals and new registrations.  Visit our licensing page to license your pet online!

Donations - We can now accept donations online!  Make a secure donation in a number of areas of care by visiting the Community Giving Fund page.

Pat Sanford Animal Welfare Grant Opportunity
Deadline: November 7
Animal Services has received a generous donation in honor of Pat Sanford to be used for grant awards over a period of years for contributions to animal welfare in Orange County.  The 2016 grant will have a maximum award of $500.  More information on applying for and donating to the grant is available here.

Margaret's Cantina Dinner Proceeds

Every 2nd Monday of the month
Eat dinner at Margaret's Cantina on the 2nd Monday of every month and 10% of proceeds will go to the Spay/Neuter Program at Animal Services.  

2-for-1 Cat Adoption Special
April - October
Adopt a cat or kitten at regular price and get a second for free!  Must be adopted together!

Low-cost rabies vaccination clinic
Thursday, October 27 

5 pm - 7 pm
Our next clinic will be held at the Farmer's Market location in Hillsborough.  Cash only for this clinic.  Please bring animals on leashes and in carriers.  See details for other clinics this year on our rabies page.

Low-cost rabies vaccination clinic & microchip clinic
Thursday, Nobember 17 

3 pm - 5 pm
This is our last clinic of 2016 and will be held at the Animal Services Center, located at 1601 Eubanks Road in Chapel Hill. Rabies vaccines $10.  Microchips offered for $25.  Please bring animals on leashes and in carriers.
