About Us

Orange County's Animal Services Center is an open-door facility and operates both intake and adoption services. We are open to the public 6 days a week at our Animal Services Center, located at 1601 Eubanks Road in Chapel Hill.   

Animal Services has animals available for adoption, and also partners with area rescue organizations to place as many animals as possible with loving homes.  We provide Animal Control services to the unincorporated portion of Orange County and Hillsborough and are clyderesponsible for enforcing State and County laws that apply to animals (including cruelty laws, nuisance animals and dangerous wildlife).  We also manage licensing and offer low-cost rabies clinics, spay/neuter programs and other services.

 

Animal Services Center Hours*

The Animal Services Center will be closed Monday, September 1st for Labor Day. For animal emergencies, please call 9-1-1 to be connected to our on-call Animal Control Officer.

  • Monday: Noon - 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday: Noon - 7:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday: Noon - 6 p.m.
  • Thursday: Noon - 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday: Noon - 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: Noon - 5 p.m.
  • Sunday: CLOSED

*Pet visitations end 30 minutes prior to closing daily.

 

Animal Control Field Service Hours

  • Monday - Friday: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • For Animal Control emergencies after hours, please call 911 to be connected to our on-call Animal Control Officer.

The Animal Services Department

strives to meet the needs of residents by working with volunteers and other partners to deliver cost-effective and integrated sheltering and animal control services that ensure the health, safety and well being of humans, pets and the community as a whole.  Addressing the problem of pet overpopulation with a proactive and positive approach is an integral ingredient of the department’s mission.

Flyleaf Book Reading

September 18, 2014

7-8 p.m.

Flyleaf Books, 752 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Chapel Hill

Join author Nancy Castaldo as she discusses her children's nonfiction book, 'Sniffer Dogs: How Dogs (and Their Noses) Saved the World.' A portion of the proceeds from book sales will be donated by Flyleaf to Animal Services and Nancy will have real "sniffer dogs" on site!

 

Dog Swim!

September 13th

1-4 pm

Hargraves Community Center, 216 N. Roberson St., Chapel Hill

Join us at Hargraves Pool for the 10th annual Dog Swim!  Always a ton of fun for dogs, owners and visitors!  $5 donation for people.  Dogs swim free!  Dogs must be current on vaccinations, not in season and on a leash to enter.

 

2 For 1 Cat Special

April - October
