Wellness Programs October 2019 through March 2020

Healthy Brains Health Bodies

Yoga for a Healthy Spine will be held Tuesday, October 22, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the The Whitted Buidling, 300 W. Tryon Street in downtown Hillsborough. Registration is required and can be completed by calling 919.245.2525 or, if you have a library card, by using the library's online account system. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or bath towel. 

"This is very much an introductory class," explains Erin Sapienza, community librarian for the library system. "And a towel can serve the same purpose as a mat in this first session: marking your space on the floor."

Funding for the wellness classes comes from the State Library. to deliver the classes, the Orange County Public Library is working with Santosha Space Yoga, Hillsborough-based business owned by Sarah Johnston. Johnston has been practicing yoga since 2010 and teaching the practice since 2012. She is a licensed massage therapist who has a solid foundation of anatomy and body mechanics. 

Additional classes include:

  • Grounding and Centering: Tools for Managing Stress and Anxiety, Sunday, November 10, 2-4 p.m., at the The Whitted Buidling, 300 W. Tryon Street in downtown Hillsborough, 
  • Yoga for Healthy Aging, a 6-week series offered in January and February, and
  • Mediation for Beginner's a 4-week series offered in March. 

Funds for the wellness programs at the Orange County Public Library come from the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (IMLS grant number LS-00-19-0034-19).
